Literature: British writer Frederick Forsyth is dead

The 86-year-old was known for his spy novels – and in earlier years worked for the British foreign intelligence service.
British author Frederick Forsyth has died. He died on Monday after a brief illness at the age of 86, as his agency confirmed to several British media outlets. The bestselling author was known for thrillers such as "The Jackal" and "The Odessa File."
Forsyth was known for his spy novels, which were translated into several languages. He not only wrote about the agents, but also worked for the British foreign intelligence service MI6 for a time.
Forsyth's life story was also eventful. Born in 1938, he trained as a pilot in the British Air Force in the 1950s. He later became a journalist, working for the Reuters news agency in Paris and in the still-divided Berlin.
