Moving with pitfalls: A family life in 276 boxes

A move for beginners, it flashes through my mind when we decide to move after 16 years. We are professionals who have already moved seven times with moving companies - including abroad. This time we are just moving to a different state. I have kept the lists of household goods and the corresponding insurance amounts in a carefully guarded folder called "moving". Perhaps a little china has been added since the last update 16 years ago, perhaps our household has a few more books and the odd vintage screen. But no problem. Packers will wrap our belongings in foil, paper and boxes and load them into two moving vans. The whole thing costs as much as a big vacation.
