A second man who was wounded in a knife fight in Berja (Almería) dies.

One of the men injured in the knife fight that took place in the early hours of Monday, August 18, in Berja (Almería) has died at the University Hospital of Poniente , in El Ejido , where he had been hospitalized since the incident, according to sources from the Civil Guard Command confirmed to EFE.

The death occurred on the night of Friday, August 22, as a result of the serious injuries sustained during the altercation , which took place on Romero Street, located in the Cerro Matadero neighborhood.

With this latest fatality , the death toll from the brawl rises to two . Several people involved were injured in the confrontation, including the man who remains in pretrial detention , accused of being the alleged perpetrator of the first fatal stabbing .

The latter was arrested on August 18 at the Torrecárdenas University Hospital in Almería , where he had been admitted for stab wounds. After being discharged on Wednesday the 20th, he was brought before the Almería Court of First Instance .

The following day, the court ordered him to be placed in provisional detention while the investigation continued, and subsequently declined to hear the case in favor of the Berja Court of First Instance .

The arrested man was being investigated for one count of completed homicide and two counts of attempted homicide , although his recent death could lead to a change in the legal classification of the acts attributed to him.

Sources close to the case have told EFE that the suspect maintains he acted in self-defense and to protect his family . According to his version, a group of people armed with sticks and knives showed up at the door of his home, and during the struggle, the fatal stabbing occurred.

The defendant claims he attempted to mediate and avoid confrontation , but was ultimately cornered into a violent situation in which he himself was injured.

The detainee's lawyer, José Luis Martínez Martínez , told EFE that he will file complaints against the other suspects for attempted murder of his client, as well as for damage to family property , including vehicles burned and homes attacked after the incident.

The Civil Guard is continuing its investigation to clarify the origin of the fight , determine the involvement of each of the participants, and analyze the circumstances surrounding the two deaths. The Judicial Police continue to gather testimony and evidence in a case that has caused great commotion in the Almería town.
