Driver identified for killing cyclist in Motul

MOTUL.- José C., 29 years old, was identified as the driver who ran over a cyclist in Motul last Tuesday, who lost his life.

As previously reported, a cyclist was killed last Tuesday after being struck by a pickup truck on the Motul-Suma de Hidalgo highway. The driver of the truck fled the scene. The vehicle was later located on the Cansahcab road.

State police located the pickup truck allegedly involved in the traffic accident. It is a Nissan NP300 pickup truck , which had damage to the front and matched the description of the vehicle reported as the one allegedly responsible for hitting the cyclist.

For his part, José C. admitted to hitting the cyclist and then fleeing towards Mérida. He explained that during his escape he lost control of the vehicle and ran off the road, ending up in the undergrowth.

Authorities are continuing with the corresponding procedures to determine responsibility.
