Martí Batres: Reform to the ISSSTE Law is aimed at senior officials

Martí Batres Guadarrama, general director of the Institute for the Security and Services of State Workers (ISSSTE) , said that the initiative to reform the ISSSTE Law is aimed at high-ranking officials of the executive, legislative and judicial branches.
The goal, he said, is for them to pay their health care fees to the organization based on their net salary and not on their base salary, as is currently the case.
“There are senior officials whose base salary is 25 or 30% of their income, so proportionally, the base worker ends up paying more than the senior official. We want senior officials to pay their share of health care in relation to their total salary.”
During the graduation ceremony for medical residents in specialties, subspecialties and highly specialized areas, Martí Batres emphasized that this reform will not affect health personnel , teachers or permanent workers.
“I emphasize that it is not directed at the basic workers of the State, nor at teachers, nor at health workers, but at the high-ranking officials of the public administration, of the executive branch.
"And also to those who hold political positions as legislators, in local congresses and the federal congress. Ministers, ministers of the court, so that their contribution is fairer for the whole community that receives the benefits of ISSSTE," he said.
The head of ISSSTE added that this reform aims to increase the funding of the institute to strengthen health services and infrastructure, mainly through contributions made by state institutions.
“The main contribution is from state institutions, that is where we will receive the resources, mainly for the improvements I am talking about, both for medical personnel and also for the infrastructure of our hospitals and clinics that need to continue improving,” he explained.
