Outstanding Ramosarizpenses awarded with medal for their contributions

On Tuesday afternoon, the Ramos Arizpe City Council held a formal session to present the Miguel Ramos Arizpe Award—in its various categories—as part of the municipality's 45th anniversary.

The medal was awarded in the categories "In Life," "Post Mortem," and "Institutional," to those figures who have elevated and brought prestige to the city's name.

In the "In Life" category, the award went to Dr. Ofelia Morton Bermea, a distinguished scientist working at UNAM on high-tech equipment that allows her to detect minuscule amounts of metals in the environment and the human body.

Thanks to this knowledge, mercury, which was previously difficult to trace, ceased to be an enigma and became a warning sign.

The doctor, originally from Ramos Arizpe, studied at the Autonomous University of Coahuila (UNAM) and holds a postgraduate degree from the University of Hamburg, Germany, specializing in geochemistry and petrology.

She has studied how heavy metals travel through air, water, and even tissues.

Deeply moved, the doctor expressed her gratitude for the distinction and indicated that Ramos Arizpe will always be her home.

The second award, in the "Posthumous" category, was presented to the family of Mr. José Alberto Castro , a prominent inventor from the city. His biography indicated that Don Alberto saw beyond the limits of his time.

Thanks to him, electrification came to the city and he also created the first electric tortilla making machine.
