Protection granted to prevent bullfights

The Fifth District Judge for administrative matters, Sandra de Jesús Zúñiga, granted an injunction against bullfights to the organization Todas y Todos por Amor a los Toros.
In this regard, it determined that the Benito Juárez mayor's office cannot issue permits for the holding of events that involve animal abuse, which includes bullfights in the Plaza México.
The granting of the legal remedy was announced by Tamara Miranda, representative of the organization.
In the judge's ruling, which was posted on X de Miranda's account, it is established that the articles referring to bullfights must be eliminated from the Law for the Celebration of Public Spectacles.
"It is a great achievement for animal rights organizations that have been organizing in different ways, but mainly, those of us who have relied on the resource of protection for the protection of animals," Miranda told Excélsior .
The association's representative explained that both the Benito Juárez mayor's office and the Mexico City Congress have ten days to comply with or appeal the ruling.
In this regard, former local deputy, Jorge Gaviño, explained that the demarcation has two options: either they accept it as is or they disagree.
If they disagree, they must file an appeal before the same District Judge and that will be sent to a collegiate court. In that collegiate court there are three judges and by majority they determine what to do," said Gaviño.
He added that although it was determined that the local Congress must eliminate the articles of the Law for the Celebration of Public Spectacles that allow bullfights, it can also appeal.
In this regard, the Benito Juárez mayor's office indicated in an information sheet that it will comply with the resolution and that it is respectful of any order issued by the Judicial Branch of the Federation.
In the Benito Juárez municipality we act with respect for the law, always promoting an environment of order and security," he said.
