Raincoats, dresses and accessories: Paloma Cepeda shares her style secrets

Paloma Cepeda grew up with fashion as part of her DNA, influenced by her mother Mariana Arias, one of the great style leaders in Argentina. However, far from staying within that legacy, she forged her own path as a model and with FP, her accessories and clothing brand in Palermo. With a very strong personality and sure of what she thinks, she answers the 22 fashion questions.
What do you like most about fashion?
I find it fun when a specific moment resurfaces and a new portal opens up to find gems all over the city. I also think that fashion has always attracted me because of the identity that brands have to create to present themselves to the world. The mix between all the arts and the inspiration that leads to creating that accessory or that garment.
And what do you like least?
When they take it seriously. I think fashion should be a space to express yourself and awaken your creativity. Not something that causes you stress.
You never leave your house without...
Lipstick or lippies, as they are called now.
Favorite designer?
I never had a favourite designer. When I was a kid I would buy the giant Vogue, the one with all the catwalk photos from fashion week and I would look at it all in great detail. But it was always the collection of all of them, I never became obsessed with one in particular.
The last thing you bought?
Leather gloves for this winter and feather earrings from Once to create the look for some FP photos.
The most controversial thing you used?
Mmm... I don't usually use very controversial things, I think. Maybe I should, right?
A trend that never goes out of style?
I don't know much about trends, I experience them more intuitively. But, for example, animal print has always been difficult for me, it's always been present and around, so this time I jumped on the bandwagon and bought a dress that I'll wear soon.
That piece of clothing you've had for a long time and can't let go?
All the clothes that belonged to my grandmother and my mother when she was my age. My grandmother kept everything and I will keep it too. Every time I wear them I feel nostalgic and happy to be able to have them. I remember that they used to wear them in other times and I think about what must have happened to them…
What things can't be missing in your suitcase?
A black raincoat from my brand. It's floor-length, has a hood, and packs small in your suitcase. It's perfect for day and night.
A place in the world?
My country. Every time I come back after a few days away I realise how much I love it.
The most stylish fictional character?
I recently watched Casablanca , which I had seen a long time ago. The moment when Ingrid Bergman first enters the scene in a white two-piece outfit is amazing. Also when she appears in the next scene with a silk scarf on her head. Her character is called Ilsa Lund.
The color you never wear?
None. You never know.
Do you collect anything?
Accessories of all kinds.
The most elegant woman in Argentina?
My mom, obviously. She never really cared much about what she wore, but whatever she wore always looked elegant on her. She's elegant.
Any fashion advice that has left its mark on you?
Once, in a café, when I was a teenager, a very well-dressed lady approached me. I was used to people approaching my mother or grandmother and saying things to them. They were always very outgoing and I was more shy, but this lady came straight to me and said: “You have style, enjoy it and own it. I think that left its mark on me.”
A personality you would like to have dinner with?
I think I'd be lazy, I'd rather have dinner with my friends and watch interviews on YouTube.
Do you shop online or in person?
Both. But if I have to choose, I prefer live. I like to play, test myself and live the whole experience.
Any accessory that you never go without?
A wallet of my brand.
A person who inspires you in fashion?
Today I see a lot of young people doing nice things. There are more tools to create an identity and a brand, and that forces us all to be more demanding and put more thought into what we do. I am very attentive to the brands that appear and many of them inspire me.
A fashion icon?
I don't have any in particular, different people, known and unknown, who have left their mark on me to this day.
Your favorite outfit?
A black dress always saves me on bad days.
Something you can't believe you used?
Almost all my looks when I was 19 or 20 years old.
