The father of the assassinated Miguel Uribe Turbay will replace his son as the presidential candidate in Colombia for the Democratic Center.

The Democratic Center announced this Friday that Miguel Uribe Londoño will be a presidential candidate, replacing his son, the assassinated Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay , who was the victim of an attack on June 7.

According to a statement from the party, the decision was made after a consensus between the senator's family and the other pre-candidates María Fernanda Cabal, Paloma Valencia, Paola Holguín, and Andrés Guerra.

Uribe Londoño will participate in debates and activities during the selection process, which will determine a single candidate through a survey scheduled for December 2025 and January 2026.

The winner will then compete in a referendum scheduled for March 8, which will seek to consolidate a "grassroots democratic unity" for the presidential elections.
