The United States calls on Hamas to accept the truce proposal with Israel 'right now'

The United States government stressed Monday that the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas must accept the truce proposal "immediately" and emphasized that ending the conflict and ensuring the return of all hostages is the priority.

"We need to end this war. We need all the hostages to come home. And Hamas needs to accept the proposal to achieve that. The president (Donald Trump) wants Hamas to accept this proposal right now ," presidential spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said at a press conference.
His statement comes on the same day that Trump is hosting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House . The meeting, behind closed doors, is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. local time (22:35 GMT).
This meeting takes place at a time when indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas remain "without progress" after the second round of mediated talks concluded on Monday in the Qatari capital, Doha.
The talks will continue in a new session tonight, according to sources close to the process who spoke to Efe.

This new round began on Sunday in Qatar with the aim of reaching a ceasefire agreement after mediators presented a new proposal to both sides, based, according to sources, on a proposal from US envoy Steve Witkoff.
The framework document stipulates a 60-day temporary ceasefire , the release of hostages held by the Islamist group in the Gaza Strip, and the opening of land crossings for the entry of humanitarian aid.
The US spokesperson declined to comment on the details of the agreement "out of respect for the ongoing negotiations," but did say that Witkoff plans to travel to Doha this week to continue the talks.

The dinner between Trump and Netanyahu, according to Leavitt, will address the US attack on three Iranian nuclear facilities , which he described as "incredibly successful," and will also address peace in Gaza, an end to the conflict "and many other issues related to Israel and the United States."
