Uady celebrates 103 years of its foundation

MÉRIDA.- The Autonomous University of Yucatán (UADY) celebrates 103 years since its founding, originally as the National University of the Southeast .
Felipe Carrillo Puerto , governor of Yucatán, founded the state's highest educational institution in 1922, which today has a total of 23,725 students and 751 full-time professors.
“Since its founding in 1922, it has had a clear vocation to effectively contribute to the social and economic development of the state of Yucatán,” reads the university’s official website.
“It has trained thousands of high school graduates, professionals, scientists and humanists, and developed programs and projects for the generation and innovative application of knowledge, as well as social programs in the community, whose […] are widely recognized by Yucatecan society.”
On February 25, Uady celebrated its 103rd anniversary in a ceremony led by the rector Carlos Alberto Estrada Pinto , attended by the mayor of Mérida, Cecilia Patrón Laviada , members of the University Council and former rectors.
As part of the celebrations on Tuesday, a floral offering was made to Felipe Carrillo Puerto and a Solemn Extraordinary Session of the Council was held.
Both events took place at the Campus of Social Sciences, Economics, Administration and Humanities of the Uady.
Within the framework of the 103rd anniversary of UADY and the Preparatory School Uno , the solemn and respectful act of incinerating the Mexican National Flag that has completed its useful life cycle was also commemorated.
"This activity was carried out in compliance with current legislation and in accordance with the protocols established by the Ministry of the Interior to promote and encourage respect for national symbols among the university community," the University said.
More than 100 years since its foundation, the Uady has 19 departments, 16 of which are higher level (faculties):
Mathematics, Chemical Engineering, Engineering, Psychology, Education, Anthropology, Accounting and Administration, Economics; Architecture, Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, and Chemistry and Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science.
These departments are included in five Campuses by area of knowledge:
- Campus of Social Sciences, Economic-Administrative Sciences and Humanities
- Campus of Exact Sciences and Engineering
- Health Sciences Campus
- Campus of Biological and Agricultural Sciences
- Campus of Architecture, Habitat, Art and Design
At the upper secondary level, there are Preparatory Schools 1 and 2 and UABIC . It offers postgraduate courses, 61 undergraduate courses, and two different baccalaureate courses, as well as the Hideyo Noguchi Regional Research Center .
