Walmart will invest nearly $2 billion in new stores and jobs.

Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena announced a significant economic boost for the state with an investment of nearly 2 billion pesos from the global chain Walmart.
This announcement, made in the central courtyard of the Government Palace, underscores the confidence of world-class companies in the potential and favorable conditions that Yucatán offers for investment and growth.
Governor Díaz Mena explained that Walmart's 1.92 billion peso investment will result in the creation of 800 direct jobs and nearly 1,500 indirect jobs. In addition, the company will open 27 new stores in various strategic municipalities in the state, including Mérida, Progreso, Acanceh, Kanasín, Tekax, Tizimín, and Valladolid.
This expansion will not only strengthen the local economy but will also facilitate Yucatecans' access to a wider variety of products and services.
"I appreciate this investment, which will make Yucatán a safer, more competitive, and more attractive destination for businesses every day. Formal employment will go hand in hand with efforts to enable local businesses to join value chains, and for Made in Yucatán products to appear on more Walmart shelves every day, not only in our state but throughout the country and beyond our borders," the governor said, highlighting the potential for local producers.
In the presence of the State Secretary of Economy and Labor (SETY), Ermilo Barrera Novelo, and the Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs for Walmart of Mexico and Central America, Javier Treviño Cantú, the governor reiterated his administration's commitment to economic growth that translates into well-being for Yucatecan families.
He emphasized the importance of a purpose-driven economy, where business success is aligned with collective well-being, and recognized Walmart as an example of a company with a positive impact on the communities where it operates.
Secretary Barrera Novelo emphasized that generating shared prosperity is a priority for the state government, and this investment encourages the participation of local suppliers.
He reported that, to date, more than 200 Yucatecan companies are already part of Walmart's value chain, a company that has demonstrated its commitment to promoting Made in Yucatán products in its stores.
For his part, Javier Treviño Cantú expressed his gratitude for the support of the state government and expressed his enthusiasm for the growth potential that Yucatán represents for Walmart, as well as for the company's long-term commitment to its customers and partners in the state.
He specified that the investment plan for the 2025-2027 period includes the opening of 27 new units of its various formats, including Bodega Aurrera, Bodega Aurrera Express, Mi Bodega Aurrera, Sam's Club, Walmart Express, and Walmart Supercenter.
Finally, Governor Díaz Mena expressed his gratitude for the support of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo for Yucatán and its people, as well as for the work of the head of the SETY (Ministry of Tourism and Tourism) and his team in attracting these important investments that contribute to economic growth and the well-being of Yucatecan families.
