'A Simple Accident,' the film by Iranian director Jafar Panahi, has won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

Galician director Oliver Laxe has won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival for his film 'Sirat', sharing the award ex aequo with German director Mascha Shilinzki for her film 'Sound of Falling'.

Laxe's film, a Spanish-French co-production, was a favorite and tells the story of a man (Sergi López) and his son (Bruno Núñez) who arrive at a remote rave in the mountains of southern Morocco. They search for Mar, their daughter and sister, who disappeared months ago during one of those never-before-seen raves. They share her photo again and again, surrounded by electronic music and a kind of freedom they've never experienced before. There, they decide to follow a group of ravers in search of one last rave to be held in the desert, where they hope to find the missing young woman.

Filmed in various locations in Aragon (around Teruel and Zaragoza) and Morocco, this Movistar Plus+ film was produced in collaboration with El Deseo (the production company of brothers Agustín and Pedro Almodóvar), Filmes Da Ermida, Uri Films, and 4A4 Productions. Following its screening at the Cannes Film Festival, the film will be released in Spanish theaters on June 6th, distributed by Bteam Pictures.

Special Mention for a Debut Film: 'My Father's Shadow', by Akinola Davies Jr.

Palme d'Or for Best Short Film: 'I'm Glad You're Dead Now' by Tawfeek Barhom.
