Gabriel García, CEO of Páramo, explains why Shakira's concert in Medellín was postponed

Nearly 45,000 people were left wanting to see Shakira in concert in Medellin. In the middle of last week, the artist announced that she would postpone the presentation she had scheduled for February 24 due to logistical problems.
What happened on the stage, which was being set up at the Atanasio Girardot stadium, was criticized by citizens. In this regard, Gabriel García, CEO of Páramo, the event organizer, told EL TIEMPO what happened with the platform and the seriousness of the incident , which prevented the performance from taking place.
"The roof used in this type of setting is a structure that not only serves to protect from the sun and rain, but also supports the weight of the lights, screens and speakers . What happened in Medellin is that part of this structure suffered material fatigue. Unfortunately, when it was being assembled it gave way and broke," said Garcia.
So why were the shows in Barranquilla and Bogotá able to take place? For these shows HE They used a different roof in each city and they came from Mexico. In this sense, according to what García explained, there was not enough time to bring another platform from another country or another Colombian city, since the times for the installation did not match.
Various alternatives were considered to resolve the issue, however, due to the danger involved in continuing with the show, it was decided to do the presentation on another occasion. "A roof that is not installed with the safety requirements can represent a risk for the staff, for the artist and for those in the front rows. If the screens or lights were to come loose, a tragedy would occur," adds the CEO of Páramo.
For now, there is no new date scheduled, but "there were talks with the mayor of Medellín to arrange for the event to take place in the second half of 2025."
"In the live entertainment industry there are situations that one does not want to experience and sometimes this happens due to force majeure, fortuitous events. Therefore, the solution is to respond with rescheduling alternatives ," concludes García.
