Mel Brooks revives the galactic comedy: 'A History of the Galaxies' is underway.

It seems that Mel Brooks , despite his 98 years, has a lot of energy left in him. The director who parodied the Star Wars universe has convinced Rick Moranis to don the iconic Dark Helmet helmet once again. Space Balls 2 (or The Crazy History of Galaxies ) is now a reality, and soon we'll be laughing at galaxies far, far away again.

Last year MGM got serious and confirmed the project , and now it's such a clear reality that we can see its first teaser.

Filming has begun in Los Angeles, and although the film still doesn't have a definitive title, it seems that The Naked Story of the Galaxies: The Quest for More Money is being considered. Bill Pullman will return to play his very own Han Solo ( Lone Starr ), Josh Greenbaum is in charge of the script and direction, and the book is written by Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez ( Detective Pikachu, The Addams Family ). Nothing will be done without Mel Brooks' approval first, as he is the executive producer.

Moranis's return is promising , as he has been retired since the 1990s, following the death of his wife. At the time, he had two young children, and the actor chose very few projects, to the point where he has had few public appearances and one-off appearances. His return for The Stranger Things is, therefore, an event in itself and a nod to fans of the series, as well as those nostalgic for the comedy.

Mel Brooks was already joking back in 1987, when the original film was released, about a hypothetical sequel titled (precisely) The Quest for More Money. For a long time it seemed like it would remain a mere pipe dream, but in a time like the present, when the industry thrives on revivals (as well as re-readings and expanded universes), the sequel has every chance of succeeding. It wouldn't just have to parody the Star Wars universe and its new products (like The Mandalorian ), but Dune and Star Trek are also there. There's plenty of material.

Plus, Moranis and Pullman can bring a cross-generational charisma that would resonate with both fans of the original and new viewers . It's difficult to balance the tone to maintain irreverence without turning into self-parody, but that's what Brooks is for. For now, the teaser is already promising, with the classic credits and a few digs at those countless franchises that don't quite know when to end.

It's difficult to balance the tone so that it remains irreverent without becoming self-parody, but that's what Brooks is for.

Having become a cult phenomenon over the years, The Crazy History of Galaxies is much more than a simple parody: it's a brilliant and acidic declaration of love for science fiction, blockbusters, and endless merchandising. Its sequel, if played right, could become the definitive satire of our era dominated by reboots and endless franchises.

There's no release date yet, but if all goes according to plan, The Mandalorian will hit theaters in 2025. Just in time to remind us that, even though Hollywood seems like an endless chain of copies of other copies... some copies deserve to come back.
