A sector of the USO distances itself from the oil union and reaffirms its rejection of fracking in support of President Petro.

The USO (Union Syndicated Workers' Union) Single Sub-Directorate of Oil Pipelines distanced itself from the oil union's recent statements questioning President Gustavo Petro's stance on climate change and his rejection of fracking.
"Denialism is a failure to foresee that if we damage the oil and gas industry, we will destroy Colombia's energy sovereignty and increase the nation's fiscal deficit. This isn't a right-wing or left-wing issue; it's common sense," the USO asserted a few days ago.

The Single Sub-Directorate of Oil Pipelines also stated that it maintains its position of "categorically supporting" the fracking ban and expressed its opposition to the USO's statement along these lines.
"The most serious aspect is that this union leadership, after having supported and defended the proposals of current President Gustavo Petro during the campaign, now ignores its own historic commitment and, in practice, appears to be aligning itself with the government's political adversaries and with interests contrary to the workers and the nation," said William Silgado, president of the Sub-Directorate.

Furthermore, he expressed his opposition to "the divisive and anti-democratic maneuvers of this faction, which arrogates powers it does not have. We also demand respect for unionism and the Collective Labor Agreement, which cannot be ignored."
The Sole Sub-Directorate of Oil Pipelines asserted that the USO's latest statements disregard the mandates of the rank and file and openly contradict the collective decisions of the union organization, as they usurp functions and ignore the decisions of the assemblies, sub-directorates, and the union itself.
