The National Meteorological Service (SMN) indicates in its forecast thata heat wave will cause maximum temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius to be recorded during these days in areas of Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Michoacán and Guerrero; 40 to 45 degrees Celsius in Chihuahua, Hidalgo, Querétaro, Zacatecas, Durango, Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Morelos, Puebla, Veracruz, Oaxaca, Campeche and Yucatán ; 35 to 40 degrees Celsius in Baja California Sur, Sonora, Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, State of Mexico, Chiapas, Tabasco and Quintana Roo and 30 to 35 degrees Celsius in Baja California and Mexico City.

After the forecasts, questions arise such as how much water one should drink daily to avoid dehydration.

It's well known that rising temperatures can lead to health problems stemming from the effects of heat, so it's important to drink plenty of fluids and avoid risks.

There is not an official amount of water to drink per day, however, the World Health Organization (WHO) says that Men should drink about 3 liters a day, while women should drink about 2.7 liters.

When a heat wave hits, the recommended amount of water to drink doesn't change, but it is still important to continue consuming fluids. When there is a deficiency in the body, dehydration may occur, which, if left untreated, can lead to serious health problems and even death.

What are the symptoms of dehydration?

The signs in the body that indicate dehydration are, according to the Mayo Clinic:

  • In children: dry mouth, crying without tears, not urinating for three hours, sunken eyes and cheeks, sunken soft area on the top of the head, irritability.
  • In adults: excessive thirst, urinating less frequently, dark-colored urine, fatigue, dizziness, confusion, dry mouth and skin.
