Shah's son wants Iran's democratic transition to be like Spain's
Amid growing tensions between Iran and the US, President Trump has discussed the possibility of forcing regime change in Iran. Reza Cyrus Pahlavi, the son of the last Shah of Iran overthrown by the Islamic Revolution in 1979, has presented himself as a candidate to be a figure for a "transition" after the fall of the ayatollahs' regime and has cited Spain as an example to illustrate his point.
In 1975 after the death of Franco, Spain successfully transitioned to a constitutional monarchy and Juan Carlos I became king. "The Spanish transition to democracy remains one of the most successful cases of peaceful change in history , and offers valuable lessons for the future of Iran," he said in a recent speech.
Spain urges EU to suspend association agreement with Israel
On Monday June 23rd, Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares asked the European Union for the "immediate" suspension of the association agreement with Israel, calling for an embargo on arms sales by the EU and individual sanctions against all those who want to thwart the two-state solution.
"It's not denunciations that will stop this inhumane war in Gaza, it's actions. And I'm clearly going to put three on the table: the immediate suspension of the association agreement, an embargo on arms sales by the European Union to Israel, and individual sanctions against all those who want to definitively thwart the two-state solution," Albares told the press at the EU Council of Foreign Ministers.
CaixaBank to launch its own property search website
Caixabank's website will soon launch with more than 40,000 properties nationwide up for sale or rent, a figure the bank hopes to double by the end of 2025.
For the time being, it will not market other properties such as parking or retail spaces, and only focus on its own residential properties instead.
Individuals will not be able to directly add their own properties to the listings, although the bank explains that it plans to implement a new system this year so they can contact professionals affiliated with the portal.
Spanish police bust gang fake padrón gang
The Civil Guard and the National Police have arrested three women accused of offering illegal padrón town hall registration to immigrants in exchange for money in the Valencian town of Xàtiva.
According to sources close to the investigation, the scheme reportedly generated nearly €135,000 through the registration of nearly 250 people. The investigation began in May 2024 after suspicious transactions were detected in municipal registry records.
Migrant corpses found off Spain with hands and feet tied
Spanish authorities have launched an investigation after discovering several dead migrants in the Mediterranean Sea whose hands and feet had been tied, police said on Monday.
Although most of the tens of thousands of Europe-bound migrants Spain receives arrive via the Canary Islands in the Atlantic, hundreds attempt the shorter crossing from north Africa to the Balearic archipelago in the Mediterranean.
According to regional daily Diario de Mallorca, since mid-May Civil Guard boats have spotted at least five bodies with their feet and hands bound.
The newspaper quoted investigators as saying that the migrants may have been tied up and thrown into the sea during the crossing, potentially due to a dispute with their smugglers.
The investigation into suspected homicide aims to identify the victims and work out the causes of their death, a Civil Guard spokeswoman told AFP.
The discovery shows "the cruellest side" of the irregular migration route, regional president Marga Prohens told local media.
