Jonathan Bailey, the actor of the moment

“When you think about the fact that what you do has a global impact, it gives you a kind of vertigo,” confessed Jonathan Bailey, one of the actors of the moment, in an interview with Fotogramas.
After conquering the world as Anthony Bridgerton in the Netflix series Bridgerton and sweeping the box office as Fiyero in Wicked, the young Briton embarked on the adventure of starring, alongside Scarlett Johansson, in the new installment of the Jurassic Park saga .
Bailey was born in Wallingford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom, on April 25, 1988. The youngest son of a large family, he grew up surrounded by older sisters and his vocation for the performing arts was awakened early.
Her acting debut came at the age of seven, in 1995, when she began working with the Royal Shakespeare Company in a small role in A Christmas Carol. From then on, she continued to work nonstop in such productions throughout her teenage years.
Since then, his theatrical career has expanded with several plays, including King John (2001–2002), Girl with a Pearl Earring (2008), Othello (2013), and King Lear and Company (2018–2019). The latter earned him an Olivier Award.
From Netflix to Oz His rise to international fame came in 2020 with the role of Anthony Bridgerton in the hit Netflix series Bridgerton, one of the platform's most-watched. Interestingly, Bailey "almost didn't audition" because he was exhausted during the penultimate week of the musical Company, in which he was performing.
However, when she realized what project she was in, she was excited: “I remember thinking, 'Wow, this is going to be a hit!'” she told The Hollywood Reporter.
And so it was, that work was a turning point in the actor's career, with a meteoric rise: after the success of the series, Bailey was nominated for an Emmy for his role in the miniseries Fellow Travelers (2023).
Additionally, he was chosen to play Prince Fiyero in the film adaptation of Wicked , alongside Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, a film that was one of the most successful of 2024. Now, in 2025, Bailey took a step further in his career as one of the protagonists of Jurassic World: Rebirth, playing Dr. Henry Loomis in a film that grossed more than $140 million in its first five days.
“It’s hard to express how surprised I was every step of the way,” he told The Hollywood Reporter about the unexpected growth his career has experienced in such a short time.
During one of the promotional events for Jurassic World: Rebirth, Scarlett Johansson gave Bailey a spontaneous kiss on the mouth, demonstrating the mutual understanding and good relationship between the two actors. But this doesn't mean there's anything more than camaraderie between them; in fact, Jonathan Bailey is openly gay, although he keeps his personal life private and has no known relationships, despite rumors linking him to fellow actor James Ellis.
No holds barred In various venues, Bailey has spoken openly about the importance of representation in the film and television industry: “You have to unlearn a lot of the narratives the industry tells you about yourself,” he reflected to The Hollywood Reporter, noting that “if you're gay, there's a glass ceiling.”
In that sense, Bailey pointed out that “being a gay actor, historically, meant that you couldn’t play a heterosexual and, anyway, there weren’t any gay roles to play…” although, as his own case demonstrates, “that, obviously, has changed a lot .”
His latest roles have made him a heartthrob for millions of fans. Not surprisingly, in 2024, he was voted Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine readers.
Now, he'll continue to win over audiences and critics alike, and in November he'll once again be the most famous prince of Oz in Wicked: For Good, the second installment of the musical that brings the witches' story to a close. And he won't be leaving the theater, as his fans have also seen him in Richard II.
Plus, he's still part of the Bridgertons, to the relief of his fans: "I've never been one to say 'Thank you, goodbye.' It's not in my nature," he told The Hollywood Reporter.
