The voices of condemnation of the assassination attempt against Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay, which took place this Saturday afternoon in the Modelia neighborhood of Fontibón, in western Bogotá, were joined by a moving message from Sofía Petro, daughter of President Gustavo Petro and Verónica Alcocer.

"A huge hug to the family of Miguel Uribe Turbay. No person should ever be punished with violence for their political views. My heart is truly broken and I am in prayer," the political science student, activist, and feminist wrote on social media .

President Petro, for his part, rejected those who are exploiting the situation for political and electoral purposes: " Those from any political persuasion who are already trying to use electoral politics over a person's life are lacking in the slightest humanity. They don't understand the slightest notion of respect," the president stated.
