Gustavo Petro denounces threats against children of his cabinet and says they may be related to the attack on Miguel Uribe.

After leading an extraordinary security meeting since Sunday afternoon regarding the attack on Senator Miguel Uribe , and awaiting a new address in which details of the progress of the investigation would be shared, President Gustavo Petro denounced threats against his youngest daughter Antonella Petro and the children of his entire cabinet .

The complaint was made in a tweet, in which he asserted that the incident could be related to the attack on the presidential candidate of the Democratic Center in western Bogotá.

"They have just threatened a robot owner through the warehouse system, threatening all the children of my cabinet, including my daughter Antonella . This fact reinforces the hypothesis that the perpetrator of the murder is an enemy of the government ," was the full message from the president in X.

The head of state met this Sunday with the military and police leadership, cabinet members, and the mayor of Bogotá, Carlos Fernando Galán, to learn firsthand the results of the first 24 hours of the investigation into the murder of Senator Uribe Turbay, who is in "extremely serious" condition with "a reserved prognosis" at the Santa Fe Foundation in Bogotá.

In this regard, the President reported that " in the Security Council, I have ordered the expansion of security systems for members of the opposition and the families of members of the national government , in response to the new direct threats against the children of ministers and the President."

Last night, in his only address so far on the incident that has shaken the country, the president maintained that no hypothesis regarding the terrorist act can be ruled out.

He emphasized that they will seek to find the masterminds of the crime, as they had already found the 14-year-old boy who allegedly shot Miguel Uribe.

"All investigative protocols at the highest level with the highest professional quality, working as a team across all intelligence agencies, must now focus on discovering who the mastermind is ," the president said.

The Prosecutor's Office will charge the 14-year-old who shot the candidate. Following the legalization of his arrest by a judge, the teenager will face charges of illegal possession of a weapon and attempted murder.

Although no specific perpetrators have been identified beyond the detained young man, President Petro called attention to the senator's security flaws and requested special attention in this situation.

" I have ordered an investigation into the same bodyguard , to find the flaws that occurred in accordance with security protocols, because whenever a murderer can attack a protected person, there is a prior security breach, and they are public servants, paid by the people of Colombia," the President declared.

Authorities ordered searches of the homes of two of the attacker's relatives based on preliminary information gathered from the results of four lines of investigation. These included a ballistics examination, security camera and cell phone videos from attendees at the political event—which circulated on social media—as well as interviews with a group of witnesses hours after the attack.
