Miguel Uribe Turbay: Citizens call for a 'march for life' this June 8th to the Santa Fe Foundation.

Presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay is fighting for his life at the Santa Fe Foundation in Bogotá following the attack he suffered this Saturday in the Modelia neighborhood. His supporters are calling for a march this Sunday, June 8, to condemn the attack.

The mobilization will have the slogan "March for Life, for Colombia" and will take place along Carrera Séptima, from 72nd Street to 117th Street, where the medical center is located.

During the march, there will be calls to respect the lives of all Colombians, "for a country without violence, opportunities, and respect," and "for unity and less confrontation." There will also be calls for the restoration of the Democratic Center senator's health.

However, supporters of the senator held a vigil in front of the Santa Fe Foundation in Bogotá, to demand the politician's life.

According to witnesses, the hitman arrived as a passenger on a motorcycle, got off, and pulled out a firearm. He came within a meter and a half of the senator and shot him six times in the back. One of the bullets lodged in Uribe's head.

The candidate's bodyguards reacted and shot the alleged hitman, who was wounded in the leg and captured while he was on the ground.

The hitman was later transferred to the Colombia Clinic, where he is recovering from his injuries. He remains in police custody.

According to police, the alleged hitman is a minor. After his arrest, the weapon allegedly used in the attack was seized.

The presidential candidate was rushed to the Medicentro clinic in Fontibón, but due to the severity of his injuries, he was transferred to the Santa Fe Foundation in Bogotá, where he was stabilized and taken to an intensive care unit (ICU).

Subsequently, the head of the neurosurgery department at the Santa Fe Foundation University Hospital in Bogotá, Dr. Fernando Hakim, began surgery on the pre-candidate .

Hakim is a neurosurgeon with over 30 years of experience. His areas of expertise include pathologies of the brain, spinal cord, and spine.

Through the official account of X, of Miguel Uribe Turbay, his wife María Claudia Tarazona spoke out after the events and asked Colombians to join in a chain of prayer for the senator's health, assuring that he is fighting for his life.

"I am María Claudia Tarazona, Miguel's wife. Miguel is currently fighting for his life. Let us ask God to guide the hands of the doctors who are treating him. I ask everyone to join us in a chain of prayer for Miguel's life. I put my faith in God," the post reads.
