The Democratic Center denounces alleged plot to attack Álvaro Uribe and other party figures: this is known

Following the assassination attempt on the life of Senator and presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay last Saturday, a series of events have unfolded across the country that have Colombians on edge and nervous. One of these is the recent report by the Democratic Center party about a multimillion-dollar payment allegedly being offered for an attempt on the life of its top leader, former President Álvaro Uribe Vélez.
The complaint was filed by the leader of that group, former House Representative Gabriel Jaime Vallejo, who asserted before the Senate plenary session on Monday, June 9, that they are offering $8 million for attempts on the life of the former president and other figures of that party.

Vallejo noted that this rumor is circulating in the halls of the Medellín Prosecutor's Office. " We have been informed that there is talk in the Medellín Prosecutor's Office that unidentified criminals are offering $8 million for an attempt on the life of former President Álvaro Uribe Vélez , Senator María Fernanda Cabal, attorney Abelardo De la Espriella, and journalist and current presidential candidate Victoria Eugenia Dávila Hoyos," he asserted.
According to the opposition leader, Attorney General Luz Adriana Camargo has already been informed of this incident, and she has been asked to urgently conduct the necessary investigations and inquiries "to prevent the further destruction of our country's democracy."

However, the Pereira-born lawyer did not specify who is behind this multi-million-dollar offer, which amounts to the staggering sum of 33 billion pesos.
Tense atmosphere Vallejo's complaint is, as stated at the beginning, just another of the many incidents that have been cascading in the wake of the attempted assassination of Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay.
On Monday, June 9, nine opposition political parties announced that they do not recognize President Petro and Interior Minister Armando Benedetti as guarantors of the electoral process and, therefore , will not attend the meeting of the Electoral Monitoring Commission convened by the government following the attack on Senator Miguel Uribe.

In addition to not participating in the Commission, which was held this Monday, they will ask the Attorney General of the Nation, Gregorio Eljach, to convene the Guarantees Commission chaired by this entity.
" We do not recognize, nor do we feel that President Petro or the National Government has any guarantees to preside over the electoral process (in the Electoral Monitoring and Control Commission)," the political parties said in a letter sent to the Attorney General of the Nation, Gregorio Eljahc.
Among the parties that made this decision are the main political parties that are far removed from the government: the Conservative and Liberal Parties, Radical Change, among others.
The parties affirmed that the law authorizes the Attorney General to activate the National Commission for Electoral Surveillance and Control, and that's why they will go to this entity, "where we will certainly go."

Interior Minister Armando Benedetti reacted to the opposition parties' decision. " They don't understand what the law says and the motive. I'm not inviting them to talk about politics, bills, or support from Congress, or to sit down with the government. That means they're supporting a government policy… We're talking about their security and electoral guarantees," Benedetti stated.
In that sense, he asserted that he will continue to seek opportunities with the political parties and will even propose individual meetings, if necessary. "If they want to reject the invitation, we will continue to insist and invite them, or we will do so individually for each party. That is the government's intention, and it is important to make it clear that the government's will is to provide security guarantees to the parties," Benedetti said.
