The message from the daughters of the neurosurgeon who operated on Miguel Uribe Turbay: 'Never let go of faith.'

Five days after being attacked in the Modelia neighborhood of Fontibón, Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay remains in the ICU of the Santa Fe Foundation in Bogotá, with a reserved prognosis. The presidential candidate also underwent successful surgery by neurosurgeon Fernando Hakim Daccach. The doctor's daughters sent him a heartfelt message.

In one of their Instagram stories, Ivette and Denise Hakim stated: “Proud daughters of a doctor with a vocation. We grew up in a home where honesty, respect, and work with love were part of daily life. We come from a family of Maronite immigrants, people who got ahead through hard work, faith, and hands always busy building. In our home, we learned that medicine is not just science: it is dedication, it is a vocation. And that we must never let go of faith, because it is true strength.”

They added: "That same FAITH that Saint Charbel inspires in us every day. As our house teaches you, vocation is lived with humility; everything is possible when you work with FAITH."

Dr. Fernando Hakim is the son of Salomón Hakim Dow (1922-2011), a physician and researcher who dedicated part of his scientific work to the field of neurosurgery and neurology, where he stood out for his contributions to the hydrodynamics of the central nervous system. He discovered normal pressure hydrocephalus syndrome and also developed a valve for its treatment.

Fernando Hakim Daccach is a Colombian neurosurgeon with more than 30 years of experience in the diagnosis and treatment of brain, spinal cord, and spine disorders. He is currently the head of the neurosurgery department at the Santa Fe Foundation in Bogotá.

In 2023, Dr. Hakim performed surgery on Shakira's 91-year-old father, William Mebarak Chadid, who was diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus. The procedure was successful, and the Barranquilla singer thanked the neurosurgeon. "Thank you to the Serena del Mar Hospital for welcoming us. To Dr. Hakim, his team, the entire medical staff, and to you all for your messages of support for my father and our family."

Dr. Hakim's two daughters are entrepreneurs. They founded Hakim's Pastry, a renowned pastry shop. In one of the stories on their company's Instagram account, the Hakim sisters shared how they founded their venture. "We built this dream together, each using her talents, with one clear rule from the beginning: to admire each other and respect each other's work. A good partnership isn't about agreeing on everything, but rather understanding that each person contributes what they do best.
