“I was really happy to start racing again in Europe, especially with my new Colombia jersey and also starting with a win for Kwiato,” said Egan Bernal after the crash.

“The way we raced was great and it was really nice to be part of a strong team. I felt really strong and obviously I am sad to have crashed, but at the same time the way I felt during the race gave me a lot of confidence and motivation to keep working hard, the season (ahead of us) is very long,” he added.

It is too early to speculate on a possible return for Egan, who just missed the Vuelta a Andalucia . Ineos must evaluate his physical condition and not risk him in order to take care of him for the Giro d'Italia in May.
