Peleteiro and Attaoui head Spain's list for the European Championship

Ana Peleteiro and Mohamed Attaoui are the most recognisable faces of the group of 36 Spanish athletes who will attend the European Indoor Championships, which will be held in Apeldoorn (Netherlands) from 6 to 9 March. The Galician, who already knows what it is like to climb to the top of a European indoor podium (2019), arrives at the event as the continental leader of the year after jumping 14.33 in the Spanish Championships. Attaoui, for his part, will compete in the 1,500 after being proclaimed national champion over that distance for the first time.
In total, there will be 19 women and 17 men, seven more athletes than at the 2023 European Indoor Championships in Istanbul. Fátima Diame, world indoor bronze medallist last year, Quique Llopis, fourth at the 2024 Paris Games, and Marta García, European bronze medallist in the 5,000 metres in 2024 and winner of the last San Silvestre, are also on a list with which Spain hopes to at least improve on the two medals from the last event (gold for Ben in the 800 and silver for Mechaal in the 3,000). Even more ambitious would be to equal the 12 medals won in Madrid 2005, the most profitable edition so far.
Águeda Marqués, Mariano García, Asier Martínez and Lorea Ibarzabal are other notable athletes with whom the delegation will travel.
