Violence against Argentine fans in Brazil again: police beat and tear gas fans of Lanús vs. Fluminense

Every visit by Argentine fans to Brazil generates problems and violence . Everyone suffers, but there are usually no solutions. This Tuesday, at the Maracaná Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, it was the Lanús fans' turn, who were repressed by the Brazilian police during halftime of the match against Fluminense , in the second leg of the Copa Sudamericana quarterfinals.

With the recent brutality of the match between Independiente and Universidad de Chile, which ended with the elimination of the 'Rojo' by decision of Conmebol, the 'Granate' fans clashed hand-to-hand with police officers in a place where the players' families were, who asked referee Jesús Valenzuela not to start the second half .

A SHAME 😤

It's always the same when Argentinians travel to Brazil: Brazilian police repressing and beating Lanús fans. pic.twitter.com/zCWHO33MZZ

The break lasted about 35 minutes, during which the "Granate" players twice approached the corner where the fans who had arrived from the southern Buenos Aires metropolitan area were located. At one point, they even attempted to breach the fences to head toward the upper section where the incidents were taking place, but were stopped by the police.

In that same stadium, but on the other side, the image of Emiliano 'Dibu' Martínez went around the world when he hung from the stands to hit the police while they were repressing fans of the Argentine national team in a derby against Brazil, in November 2023.

What CONMEBOL doesn't show you. Riots at the Maracanã stadium, tear gas, batons, and rubber bullets. The Brazilian police's behavior against Lanús fans is disgraceful. https://t.co/XPMkSfWOzp pic.twitter.com/aWF2YxxgXV

The fans of Argentinos Juniors, San Lorenzo, and Boca Juniors had suffered it in the Copa Libertadores final. So had the Estudiantes de La Plata fans, and so many others who had come to try to cheer on their clubs over the years.

This time, despite the blows, they ended up celebrating thanks to Dylan Aquino's goal and Germán Cano's header off the far post. Lanús is in the semifinals .
