PSG-Angers: Ruiz in every shot, Angers' lack of ambition... The highs and lows

The Parisians won against Angers (1-0) this Friday, at the Parc des Princes, during the second day of Ligue 1.

It took a roll of the dice, a game of billiards, or fate to tip the scales of this match between a PSG team that was still learning the ropes and a team with no ambition (see elsewhere) . Fabián Ruiz did his best to overcome the boredom that was gripping the Parc des Princes, with this opportunistic goal at the start of the second half (50th). A goal worth three points (1-0) . He was indeed picking up a ball that was lying around. Beyond this goal, the Spanish midfielder had his usual performance, alongside the excellent João Neves in particular. And it was ultimately the Parisian who proved the most dangerous, with a header that went close to the target (78th) and even a shot that hit the Angers post (86th). All good.
Skip the adAs expected, Paris Saint-Germain is starting the season slowly in terms of content. Logically, Luis Enrique's men are still in the preparation phase. In terms of scoring, they have nevertheless been at full capacity since the start of the 2025-26 season, with the conquest of the European Super Cup against Tottenham (2-2, 4-3 pen) to start and two victories in Ligue 1 (Nantes, Angers). As for the spectacle, we'll come back to it, but once again, it's logical after an extended season and a truncated, or at least faltering, preparation. We'll have to wait a little longer to see PSG at 100%. A PSG that didn't concede a single shot on target this Friday, as last Sunday in Nantes (1-0 victory) . A first after two matches since Opta statisticians began analyzing Ligue 1, in 2006-07.
FLOPS
Listening to Alexandre Dujeux talk about the Parisian "ogre " in the press conference the day before the match, we understood. Angers wasn't going to take any more risks than Nantes did last week. Too bad, if there's a time to take on PSG, it's now. The Red and Blue are still in the running-in phase, a mild understatement. But we can't say that the SCO has the ingredients to force destiny. Certainly, a PSG at 50% remains superior to this Angers team in all areas of the game, no doubt, but that's no reason to expect a miracle of this kind. Under these conditions, what had to happen happened, and the Parisians took all three points. The outcome might have been the same with a more offensive game plan from the visitors, but at least they would have taken their chances.

A native of Drancy, Algerian international Haris Belkebla proudly wears the number 93 on his jersey. As a true Parisian, he saw fit to help PSG by sending, despite himself of course, a pass that proved decisive to Fabián Ruiz. A very poorly executed pass and a gift for the Spaniard, who didn't ask for more. Another gift of note, from the young (18-year-old) Marius Courcoul in the first half, is worth noting. However, we won't be putting him down for two reasons. The first is that his coach had already substituted him at halftime. A choice that says it all about the performance of the boy, who was overwhelmed. The second is that the penalty he won was missed by Dembélé.
Aside from his missed penalty, Ousmane Dembélé generally missed the mark on Friday night. The Ballon d'Or candidate more or less missed everything he attempted, whether in the middle or on the wing. Lacking energy, rhythm, or inspiration, it was undoubtedly a bit of all of these. Prodigy Désiré Doué suffered from the same problems, even though he almost scored what would have been a sublime goal from the right half-hour mark. Just as lacking in success as his illustrious teammate, the new French international also pushed himself too hard, persisting in fruitless solo raids.
