“It will exceed one million admissions in one week”: Why the film “Lilo and Stitch” is a huge hit

The live-action version of "Lilo & Stitch" has had the best theatrical release of the year and is already shaping up to be one of the biggest hits of 2025. Here's a closer look.

With 262,605 tickets sold on Wednesday - while Mufasa had "only" sold 142,674 - the live-action version of "Lilo and Stitch" has the best theatrical opening of the year, beating "Mission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning" to the post . Without serious competition before next month, the cutest alien could well conquer the world, seducing children, teenagers and their parents alike. This will undoubtedly be the case after a rainy Saturday and Sunday.
The first images were revealed to the general public at D23, a major event that brings together Disney fans in the United States, last year. "From the start, we felt a strong enthusiasm for this film," recalls Mélanie Naessens, marketing director for Disney and Pixar Studios. "The franchise has been gaining momentum in stores for three years, and the content has benefited from it on the Disney+ platform. All these indicators led us to believe that the film might be a success."
