Boulazac-Isle-Manoire: Studio 53 will surf the most beautiful spots in the world

This Unipop evening, held this Monday, will be dedicated to surfing. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a conference hosted by Jeffrey Swartwood.

This lecturer at Bordeaux-Montaigne University specializes in American civilization, particularly Californian civilization. He has written several books on the subject, including "Surfing's Early Short Stories by Mark Twain and Jack London: Autofictional Constructions and the Origins of a Genre" and "Olos, Eggs, and Other Devices: A Brief History of the Evolution of Surfboards."

Live from the Pessac cinema, this academic will present a lecture entitled "History of Surfing" to the Périgord audience. He will take viewers to the shores of Polynesia, the French coast, Africa, America, and Asia, for a dive into the history of surfing.

Jeffrey Swartwood will also revisit the cultures from around the globe that have shaped this world, while exploring the roles and representations of women in the world of surfing.

This practice has also influenced literature, cinema – like the film "Point Break" with Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves – music – who doesn't know the Beach Boys? – language, and fashion. Global surf culture is a multidimensional construct that is constantly evolving.

A film in search of the perfect wave

At 8:30 p.m., Bruce Brown's "The Endless Summer" will screen a surf classic. This iconic documentary follows two California surfers, Robert August and Mike Hynson, as they search for the perfect wave through spectacular scenery.
