Cannes Film Festival 2025: Powerful or divisive, what are the standout films in the competition?

The film by the Franco-Spanish director, little known to the general public, was the first major shock of the competition. This unclassifiable work, as powerful as it is deeply disturbing, constantly thwarts the viewer's expectations. From a relatively classic starting point—a father and son go to a rave party in the Moroccan desert to try to find their daughter and sister who have been missing for two months—the story suddenly shifts when Luis (Sergi Lopez) decides to follow four ravers living on the fringes of society further south. What ensues is a sort of hallucinatory road trip through the arid landscapes of the Atlas Mountains, driven to the rhythm of techno music and punctuated by brutal events intended to remind us of the fragility of a world rushing to its destruction, from which there is no point in trying to escape.
