June 18th Appeal: a watch in tribute to General de Gaulle

Col&MacArthur, a Belgian specialist in tribute watches, has dedicated one of its creations to the man who embodied and saved France, before leading it.

June 18, 1940: From London, the voice of Charles de Gaulle rises over the BBC. The historic speech, just captured by the young Elisabeth de Miribel, then collaborating with the French economic warfare mission led by Paul Morand, and in fact the first to have joined Free France, will galvanize hearts and launch the resistance of France and a part of the French people, the refusal of defeat at the hands of Nazi Germany.

Gaullist nostalgics were recently able to purchase the actual watches owned and worn by General de Gaulle at Artcurial. After pieces paying tribute to the 1918 armistice and Dunkirk in 1940, the Belgian watchmaker Col&MacArthur has also decided to pay him a watch tribute as successful as the timepiece once dedicated to... Napoleon!

This limited edition features a multitude of symbols : blue, white, and red hands, the Cross of Lorraine, Colombey-les-Deux-Églises, and the Élysée Palace on its dial. In the center, the golden silhouette of the general sits above the symbol of the Republic, between the two stars on his temporary brigadier general's cap.

A particularly moving tribute at four o'clock, or twenty minutes, the inscribed Anne recalls the short life of the adored daughter of the general and Yvonne de Gaulle, the youngest of the couple, a carrier of Down syndrome, who died on February 6, 1948 at the age of 20. The golden V index recalls the draft constitution of the Fifth Republic, adopted by referendum in September 1958, with 79.2% of the vote. Finally, the slogan "Vive la France" is discreetly inscribed in Morse code around the dial of this CDG1970, while the oak leaves adorning the side of the watch are inspired by those of his kepi. This model is powered by a Swiss Ronda quartz movement.
