The Astro24 club invites you to observe the moon in Saint-Médard-de-Mussidan

The global operation "On the moon again" was launched in July 2019 by a collective of French astronomers to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of man's first steps on the moon. The principle was simple: bring telescopes as close as possible to the public to invite them to come and observe the reliefs of the Moon . Following the success of this first edition, the organizers wanted this new public encounter with astronomy to be repeated every summer.

The telescopes will be installed in the village center

The Mussidanais Astro24 club (Astro24M) has chosen to observe the moon with the public either on Friday evening, June 6 (from 9:30 p.m.), or Saturday, June 7, depending on weather conditions. The telescopes will be installed in the center of the village of Saint-Médard-de-Mussidan, the town turning off the surrounding lights for the occasion and limiting traffic in the adjacent streets. In addition to the moon and its reliefs (craters, mountains, etc.), the organizers will also be able to show the public some "deep sky" objects (star clusters, nebulae, galaxies), as a rehearsal for the Nights of the Stars which will be held in early August. Unfortunately, not the planets which are currently only visible in the morning, except for Mars which is not very spectacular. Participants will receive a map of the moon.
