The death of French rapper Werenoi, aged 31, at the height of his fame

The world of music, and rap in particular, is in shock: French rapper Werenoi, the biggest-selling record in France in 2023 and 2024 according to the National Syndicate of Phonographic Publishing (SNEP), has been taken down in his prime and at the height of his fame. His third album, Diamant noir, released on April 10, had immediately reached number one in the Top Albums charts, as had his first two, Carré in 2023 and Pyramide in 2024. He died at 5 a.m. on Saturday, May 17 at La Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital in Paris, and was scheduled to perform that same evening in Lyon. He was 31 years old.
His health had deteriorated considerably the day before, but the cause of his death is still not officially known. After the announcement of his death via a post on the social network X by his producer Babs, from the independent label PLR, reactions were quick to pour in, from the Marseille rapper SCH with a simple "RIP" (from the Latin "Requiescat In Pace" , "may he rest in peace") on Instagram to his friend Bayern Munich footballer Sacha Boey, and the singer Pascal Obispo, who accompanied him on the piano for the song Chemin d'or during his Zénith in Paris in September 2023.
