Three people will appear in court on Thursday, June 19, in Châlons-en-Champagne for "human trafficking" against undocumented workers during the 2023 grape harvest. The case highlights the corrupt subcontracting that is plaguing the Champagne vineyards.
A luxury wine, charming bubbles, and an aftertaste of misery. This Thursday, June 19, in the Châlons-en-Champagne Criminal Court, the Champagne appellation, a symbol of French refinement worldwide, will be confronted with its dark side. Three individuals and the wine service company Anavim are appearing in court on charges of "human trafficking" against 47 foreign and undocumented workers during the September 2023 harvest.
