Duplomb Law: Pending the Constitutional Council's decision, the Rural Coordination maintains pressure on the government

The Wise Men will deliver their decision on Thursday, the final step before the law is promulgated. The vast majority of farmers' unions hope for the law's approval.

This is the law that is crystallizing opposition. The Constitutional Council will rule on Thursday, August 7, on the Duplomb Law, which aims to " lift the constraints " weighing on farmers. In parallel with the petition against the text, which has gathered more than 2 million signatures , left-wing parliamentarians have referred the matter to the Sages. They will rule on its conformity with the Constitution, particularly from the point of view of environmental protection.
Among the agricultural unions, the Confédération paysanne (left-leaning) opposes the bill. The majority of other agricultural organizations support the law and called for measures during the major farmers' mobilization last year. The Coordination rurale, the second-largest union behind the alliance of the FNSEA and the Young Farmers, remains highly mobilized and vigilant.
The president of the Rural Coordination, Véronique Le Floc'h, awaits the decision with " great concern" because she fears the rejection of the text's flagship measure: the reintroduction of acetamiprid, a pesticide banned in France in recent years and authorized elsewhere in Europe.
" The Constitutional Council has its share of responsibility. We expect it to hear the voice of a tiny portion of farmers, those who need it because the future of these products depends on it. Fruits and vegetables, and hazelnuts in particular," argues the president of France's second-largest agricultural union.
"We expect equivalent treatment for all producers at the European Union level."

If the Constitutional Council censors the Duplomb law, Véronique Le Floc'h already plans to demand strong measures from the government. Such as " the removal from shelves of all imported products that have used acetamiprid. All these highly purchased, highly valued products, such as spreads and certain fruits. If the state does not implement these product withdrawals, we will be forced to do it ourselves, " she warns.
The Rural Coordination is also very attached to another contested article of the law: the one that facilitates water storage projects.
