Storage: a booming market
He has hectares of fields and square metres of buildings that are sometimes empty. Stéphane Dahirel, a cereal farmer from Morbihan, had an idea to make the most of his unused hangar. Inside, there is a car park for camper vans and around twenty storage boxes. Renting a 14m2 container costs 110 euros per month, or 8 euros per m2 and half the price of a professional.
In four years, the farmer invested 30,000 euros to buy his containers and build his own wooden boxes. All the boxes are currently rented. A total of 2,000 euros per month in turnover, not insignificant. "The income generated will allow us to maintain the building," he explains.
Like Stéphane, more and more people are getting into storage. In ten years, the number of sites has tripled in France, sometimes in unusual places.
