Saying on TV that Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo should "shut her mouth" and "hunt rats at night instead of talking nonsense" isn't worth a €300,000 fine, but rather half that amount, according to the Council of State. On Tuesday, May 6, the Council reduced from €300,000 to €150,000 a fine imposed in May 2023 by Arcom on C8, the now-defunct channel where Cyril Hanouna —who else?—had made these remarks.
"The amount of 300,000 euros of the penalty imposed on C8 must be considered excessive," the highest administrative court ruled in its decision. The Council of State, which had been seized by C8, said it had reduced the fine by half, "given the seriousness of the breaches in question and their overall characteristics."
The incriminating remarks were made on the program "Touche pas à mon poste" on October 5, 2022. The mayor of Paris did not participate but was insulted by the star presenter, who is a regular at this, and who will be joining M6 next fall.
C8, a channel owned by the Canal + group and Vincent Bolloré, ceased broadcasting in March after Arcom refused to renew its frequency . Its eviction from DTT was largely motivated by the channel's "repeated failings," which accumulated €7.6 million in fines due to Cyril Hanouna's misconduct. So now it's more like €7.45 million. That's next to nothing.
