Saône-et-Loire. Autistic, diabetic, and in remission from cancer, the members of this family travel 1,000 km

Their children are autistic, diabetic, and in remission from cancer. Their challenge? To cycle 1,000 km across France. To prove they are stronger than their illness. This is what they told our colleagues at the Journal de Saône-et-Loire .

"We no longer want sick children to be stigmatized."

"We no longer want sick children to be stigmatized," says Noémie Borel, the mother of five children.

Leaving from Charente, they aim to ride for 13 days to reach their home in the Rhône, with the idea of ​​meeting type 1 diabetics along the way.

Each stage is 80 km long. “All our children are atypical and each has a little something extra: Clément, the eldest, is autistic, Maxence is dyslexic, Corentin is diabetic and Mathieu is in remission from neuroblastoma (pediatric cancer). Cycling 1,000 km with five children is our slightly crazy challenge. We are riding for all the children and also for the association Les Îlots de Langerhans , which brings together type 1 diabetic children all over France.”

On Friday, May 2, in Mâcon, they met Mayeul, 8, who has diabetes. He followed the challenge via social media.

A fundraising campaign has been launched on leetchi.com : “In the 1,000, 1,000 km for sick children”.
