This oral contraceptive, designed for continuous use for 91 days, could cause various side effects if two hormonal pills cannot be taken. Health Canada warns of a risk of pregnancy, discharge, and bleeding. The recall has been issued nationwide.

"If your package does not contain all the tablets, you should continue to take your medication without interruption and obtain a replacement product or another contraceptive as soon as possible," reads the Health Canada website.

People who have one of the defective batches are invited to go to their pharmacist to exchange their box.

"Health Canada is closely monitoring the recall and the manufacturer's investigation, including the implementation of corrective and preventive measures to prevent this problem from recurring," the government said.
