Natasha Lyonne Details Surprising Bond With Wu-Tang Clan's Method Man

Natasha Lyonne isn’t just solving murders—she’s making friends along the way.
The Poker Face star invited many stars to join her on the first season of the Peacock original show, including Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Chloë Sevigny and Adrien Brody, and season two is no different. This season, though, she made a new best friend in Wu-Tang Clan’s Method Man.
“It turns out that he and I are maybe the same person,” Natasha told Will Marfuggi and Erin Lim Rhodes during the E! @ Poker Face Season Two Premiere livestream event in Los Angeles May 1. “We get along so well. We had so many laughs.”
And as it turns out, the Russian Doll actress thinks the rapper (real name Clifford Smith, Jr.) may have better jokes than her friend John Mulaney.
“I think Method Man is funnier,” she continued. “I said it here. Yeah, that's a dare, John.”
As for what else bonded Natasha and the musician on the set of season two, premiering on Peacock May 8? She noted it was their shared roots.
“New York attitude problems and just how soft we are despite them,” the 46-year-old explained. “We were just people who really want to do a good job, but seem tough because we have accents. But at heart, [we] are just softies.”
She added, “Both of us, when we get nervous, we're like, ‘Yeah! Let's go!’ And then fall back into a pocket organically. But we laughed and laughed.”
In fact, Natasha and Method Man became so close that she got to use his real name. “He let me call him Clifford,” she said. “I guess only his grandmother does that.”
Be sure to tune into season two of Poker Face—which also stars Cynthia Erivo, Melanie Lynskey, Justin Theroux and more—on Peacock May 8. For now, read on to see who all graced the red carpet of the show’s premiere.
(E! and Peacock are both part of the NBCUniversal family.)
