"Assisted dying is the ultimate treatment": MP Michel Lauzzana supports the proposed law on end of life

Jacques Vialettes, departmental delegate of the Association for the Right to Die with Dignity (ADMD), agrees. "According to an Ifop poll from 2024, 89% of French people say they are in favor of introducing assisted dying," he emphasizes.

The bill passed in committee sets out five conditions governing the use of this system. In particular, the patient must be suffering from a serious and incurable condition, with a life-threatening prognosis, whether in an advanced or terminal stage. "Assisted dying is the ultimate treatment," continues Michel Lauzzana. "It's a question of dignity, a law of freedom and fairness. Some people go to Belgium, which legalized it a long time ago, but not everyone has the means to do so."

The former doctor points out several points that could be debated during the examination of the second text, such as the application of advance directives, taken by an individual to express their wishes in terms of care, in advance.
