Not a glance, not a word for the journalists. Rachida Dati entered the National Investiture Commission with a determined step on Monday, July 28. Facing Michel Barnier, she will also be a candidate for the legislative by-election in the 2nd constituency of Paris and declares that she has been betrayed by her own camp. "I am a candidate no matter what in this constituency where Parisians are waiting for change! (...) I will not give in to those whose sole objective is to get elected at my expense," the Minister of Culture affirmed in an interview with Le Parisien.
The war of the right is officially underway. As the National Investiture Commission leaves, party officials are trying to calm the situation. "I regret that we were unable to reach an agreement on Paris this evening. Of course, Michel Barnier's candidacy seems entirely legitimate to me, but I think we need to reach an agreement with Rachida Dati," explained Valérie Pécresse.
The discussions promise to be difficult. The Minister of Culture sees Michel Barnier as a potential rival for 2026. She has been aiming for Paris City Hall for years.
