Next-generation drone detectors installed in Quebec detention facilities

Quebec will install next-generation drone detectors in the province's detention facilities, Public Security Minister François Bonnardel announced Tuesday.

These new detectors should make it possible to "identify, track and apprehend pilots and their aircraft more effectively," according to a press release from the office of the Minister of Public Security.

In addition to tackling drones, Quebec will also deploy devices to assist with searches in provincial prisons.

"We will have mobile detectors for cell phones and [devices] for X-rays through walls. So the challenge is to be able to have additional technological tools to give officers the ability to find illicit objects like small knives, blades, or other items that could be hidden in walls or elsewhere," explains Minister Bonnardel.
