Rhône: Mions mayor imposes curfew for minors under 17
Mickaël Paccaud, the LR mayor of Mions, in the Rhône region, has announced the introduction of a curfew prohibiting the movement of young people under 17 years of age unaccompanied by an adult between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
"For several weeks, a minority of minors has been committing numerous acts of disruption in certain strategic areas of our town," wrote Mickaël Paccaud, the LR mayor of Mions, on his social media. The mayor announced yesterday, Thursday, May 29, that he was introducing a curfew for young people under 17 who are not accompanied by an adult between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
"Aggressive behavior, incivility, damage to public property: these actions, although carried out by a handful, are detrimental to the well-being of all Miolands. Faced with this unacceptable situation, I have taken the decision to sign a decree prohibiting the movement of minors under 17 years of age, unaccompanied by a responsible adult, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. in the affected areas of our territory," the mayor further justifies.
A "clear, proportionate, and deliberate" measure responding to "a simple requirement: to guarantee every inhabitant the fundamental right to live in safety, in peace, and without suffering the disorder imposed by a tiny minority." And to conclude: "I say it bluntly: I will not back down. Nothing and no one will prevent me from defending the interests of my constituents. The Republic cannot bend in the face of intimidation, damage to property, provocation, or gratuitous violence."
