Ten years of Laudato si': They reconcile the desire for children and ecology, as a sign of confidence in the future

For young parents, confidence in the future is expressed by their desire for a child, a symbol of renewal and hope, in a society permeated by a climate of eco-anxiety and guilt-inducing discourse where giving life is no longer taken for granted.
Before deciding to have a child, Cécile and Éloi, thirty-somethings committed to ecology and social justice, asked themselves questions: "Is it reasonable to give birth to a child in a world that is falling apart, with climate change and the rise of the far right? Isn't it a burden for him?" confides the young mother. "We did it anyway because we are believers. We believe that God acts through us and this gives us a reason to hope in the current generation and that of tomorrow."
