Football: Tours FC is over

On January 30, the administrative appeal court of Orléans had acted on the liquidation of the club. Despite additional time being granted, the executive committee of the FFF definitively put an end to Tours FC this Wednesday.
A hard blow for Tours supporters. The FFF executive committee has confirmed the definitive end of Tours FC by not allocating sporting rights to the association on Wednesday following the liquidation of the SASP pronounced on January 30 .
The club, which played four seasons in the first division in the 1980s, is losing not only its first team, which played in Regional 1, but also all its other teams, which will not be able to finish the season, according to article 234 of the regulations of the French Football Federation.
TFC had reached the last 32 of the Coupe de France this season - without being able to play them - and was leading its R1 Championship before seeing its matches postponed pending the decision of the FFF.
Finalised on 30 January by the administrative appeal court of Orléans, the compulsory liquidation was pronounced at the end of June but suspended in mid-July in order to give a buyer, the Belgian investor Ivan Desmet, a chance to save the structure.
The promises never came to fruition, with Tours FC even being forced to cancel its Coupe de France round of 32 match against Lorient (L2) a few hours before kick-off at the end of December because it was unable to cover the organisational and security costs.
Under the name FC Tours, the club had four seasons in Division 1 between 1980 and 1985, reaching the semi-finals of the Coupe de France twice (1983, 1984) with Argentinians Delio Onnis and Omar da Fonseca.
Other renowned players have worn the sky blue jersey, such as Patrick Vieira, still a teenager, or Olivier Giroud, from 2008 to 2010, where he revealed himself before bursting onto the scene at Montpellier.
