After succeeding Victor Wembanyama as the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft, Zaccharie Risacher failed to emulate him in the race for the title of best rookie of the season.

San Antonio Spurs point guard Stephon Castle was voted rookie of the year, succeeding his French teammate Victor Wembanyama , the NBA revealed on Tuesday, April 29. The number 1 pick in the last draft, Zaccharie Risacher (Atlanta) took second place in this ranking, ahead of Jaylen Wells (Memphis).

Stephen Castle pulled away from Risacher by a wide margin, with 92 voters placing him in first place, compared to five for the Frenchman, and three for Memphis' Jaylen Wells. The Hawks' French center finished the season averaging 12.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.2 assists. He was also named the best rookie for February and March. Another Frenchman, Alexandre Sarr, who plays for Washington, finished fourth.

At 20, Stephon Castle averaged 14.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 81 regular-season games, as his team finished 13th in the Western Conference with a record of 34 wins and 48 losses. David Robinson (1990) and Tim Duncan (1998) were previously voted the Spurs' best rookie in the NBA.
