Two years after being indicted, will Achraf Hakimi be tried for rape? On Friday, August 1 , the Nanterre prosecutor's office requested that the Moroccan international defender for Paris Saint-Germain be referred to the Hauts-de-Seine departmental criminal court for the rape – which he has always contested – of a young woman in 2023. The judicial authority confirmed on Friday that it had "referred the matter to the investigating judge in charge of this judicial investigation" to Agence France-Presse, confirming information from Le Parisien . "It is now up to the investigating magistrate to make his decision within the framework of his order," the prosecutor's office stated. If he goes to trial, the defender faces up to fifteen years in prison.

The 26-year-old footballer, who has been the subject of a preliminary investigation since February 27, 2023, due to accusations made against him by a 24-year-old woman at the time of the events, was indicted and placed under judicial supervision on March 3.

The young woman, who had not filed a complaint at the time, went to the Nogent-sur-Marne police station (Val-de-Marne) to report the rape she allegedly suffered at the hands of Achraf Hakimi on February 25, 2023, at the player's home in Boulogne-Billancourt (Hauts-de-Seine). She said she had formed a relationship with the Parisian right-back on the social network Instagram in January, then gone to the Moroccan international's home. She reportedly told police that the Moroccan international had groped her before raping her. The young woman allegedly pushed the player away before contacting a friend who came to pick her up.

During the hearings, the PSG player denied any assault or rape. The capital club, of which the Moroccan international defender is one of the leaders who led it to the Champions League title at the end of May, has so far always chosen to give its "support" to Achraf Hakimi, assuring that it "trusts the justice system" . On vacation after PSG's long season, the player did not react, but his lawyer Fanny Colin assured that the prosecution was "doing its job" in requesting a trial, stating that "there is a great deal of exculpatory evidence" and its intention "that the truth comes out".
