Rugby: mediation opened between Stade Toulousain and the LNR concerning the transfer of Jaminet

The national body and the club have 45 days to settle the file of the transfer of Melvyn Jaminet from Perpignan to Toulouse in the summer of 2022. The player was forced to pay his departure clause himself. A sum that he never recovered.
By Le Parisien with AFPMediation has been opened between the National Rugby League and Stade Toulousain concerning the conditions of the transfer of Melvyn Jaminet from Perpignan to Toulouse in 2022, the LNR told AFP on Wednesday, confirming information from the newspaper L'Équipe . The mediation must take place within 45 days to allow both parties to agree on the conditions under which this embarrassing file for the French champion club can be resolved.
In an article dated January 28, the newspaper L'Équipe revealed that in 2022, full-back Melvyn Jaminet had paid the clause allowing him to leave Usap for Toulouse himself, for an amount of 450,000 euros, taking out two loans to achieve this. This amount was then allegedly not paid by Stade Toulousain to Jaminet, who signed with Toulon in 2023. A payment of this amount would have forced Toulouse to exceed the ceiling authorized by the salary cap in force in French rugby.
If the mediation is not successful within the 45-day period, which should end in March, the LNR disciplinary committee in charge of these cases will be notified of this matter. In a new article published on Wednesday, the newspaper L'Équipe mentions a sanction of up to 1 to 2 million euros, Stade Toulousain having already been sanctioned in 2023 for "failure to comply with the general obligation of transparency and cooperation" during the transfer of South African winger Cheslin Kolbe to Toulon.
In a press release issued at the beginning of February, the club chaired by Didier Lacroix confirmed that "formalized exchanges" were taking place between the club and the League, denouncing "factually inaccurate statements", without however ruling on the substance of the case. The investigation by the sports daily pointed out in particular the role of intermediaries through whom the money supposed to compensate the full-back would have passed, without him ever having received it.
At the same time, in July 2024, the French international (20 caps), drunk after a match won with the French XV in Argentina, posted a racist video on his social networks. For this, the full-back was given a 26-week suspension by the FFR, the body having judged that he had "harmed the best interests of rugby".
This considerably reduces the possibilities of image contracts for the Hyères native, limiting his prospects of financial income. The 25-year-old player returned to the field on Saturday with Toulon , during the victory against Stade Français.
